36m starts at 6 am

(HEAD LAMP REQUIRED! Sunrise at 7:49am)

12m starts at 8 am

Where:

Black Rock Mountain State Park

Mountain City, Ga

What:

The 12 miler is a scenic single loop 12 ish mile

race (more like 11 but feels like 16) using 90%

of the trails within the park 10% SCENIC

paved road.

The 36 miler is a triple loop hard as nails,

beautiful as heck, and really technical! There

are 2 added bonuses in the 36 mile that are not

in the 12 miler.

THE ENTIRE STATE PARK IS CLOSED TO JUST RUNNERS AND PEOPLE WITH THE RACE!!!

The park is insanely beautiful. Run Bum himself helps maintain the trails.

Here is what Run Bum says about the course he has designed...

"No one will break 6 hours (for the 36 mile) but I would like to see them try so I can laugh. For the other 95% of runners you will be blown away but the scenic beauty. You can see 3 different states from the state park. Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina.

The specifics...

Course:

12 miler :

The loop is more like 11 miles but so you feel better about bragging to your friends we will call it 12 miles.

It has aproximately 5,000 ft of elevation change. This is decieving becuase thats not that much but the course is very technical.

90% single track, 10% road (note this is perfectly paved road and I am running you down it because it is on the ridge line and with all the leaves down it will blow your mind!) 10% WTF. :) That last part is a surprise.. can you say powerline cut?

You run the Tennessee Rock Trail up and over Black Rock Mountain (highest point in Georgia State Parks) down to the James Edmonds Trail. You run this down and connect into The Black Rock Lake fitness trail. This one of THE ONLY flat parts of the course. Then you connect back into the James Edmonds Trail. You do the Lookoff Mountain loop (AMAZING VIEW!!!)

and then back into the J.E. Loop. You take this all the way back to where the Tennessee Rock Trail and J.E. Trail meet. You jump onto the road and run by the beautiful Cowee Overlook. You then run around to see the Nantahala Overlook. At this point you have something special waiting for you :). Powerline cut. However you will be going DOWN it so be careful and don't worry itssoooo beautiful. You then take the connector trail back up to Black Rock Mountain Parkway. You will run on the road now for about a mile. THIS WILL BE THE MOST SCENIC MILE OF THE COURSE IN MY MIND. Ridge running with no leaves on the trees. You pass the Black Rock View point. Once you hit the road you have one mile until the finish.

36 miler:

GEORGIA DEATH RACE QUALIFIER!!! A great training run for GDR!

I am making this as hard as possible. If this isn't the hardest and most beautiful 36 miles you have done then I did something wrong. THIS IS PERFECT TRAINING FOR THE GEORGIA DEATH RACE!!!

The course is 3 loops. And is more like 34-35 miles. But we'll call it 36 so you don't punch me afterwards for it being long. Though you might want to punch me because it is so hard. However the beauty will mask the pain.

85% single Track, 5% gravel road, 5% paved road.

You guys will start off with a one mile down hill and back on a gravel road to camp Tsatugi. The 12 miler does not run this.

You will only do this on the first loop.
